Less Visited, More Relaxed – a Real Costa Tropical Alternative
Calahonda is a small village on the Costa Tropical, roughly 70km south of Granada and a few kilometres east of Motril. It has none of the development of Almuñécar and significantly less tourism — the beach is a narrow strip of dark pebble and gravel backed by a low promenade, with a handful of restaurants and bars and not much else. That is largely the appeal.
The village sits at the base of steep hillsides where the mountains come close to the shore. The water is clear and relatively calm, and there are a few rocky coves accessible on foot east of the main beach. Calahonda works well as a quieter alternative if you want a coast day without the summer crowds of the larger resorts — allow about an hour from Granada.
