Spain's Highest Mountain Range
The Sierra Nevada is the highest mountain range in mainland Spain, with Mulhacén reaching 3,479 metres — the highest peak on the Iberian Peninsula. The range is both a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a national park, and it sits just 45 minutes from Granada by car. Very few cities in Europe can put you on a ski slope and in front of a UNESCO World Heritage monument on the same day.
In winter (roughly December to April), the Pradollano ski resort offers around 110 kilometres of pistes across all levels, and as the southernmost ski resort in Europe it gets strong sunshine even on snowy days. Summer brings a different crowd: hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners making the most of the high-altitude paths and the Lagos de la Caldera glacial lake circuit. The villages at the foot of the sierra — Güéjar Sierra, Monachil, and Pinos Genil — are all worth stopping at on the way up or down. Book through Terraza 6 and we will point you to the best routes for the season.
