Between Pampaneira and Capileira, Bubión is the one that most visitors drive through without stopping. That's their loss — it's the quietest, the most local, and the best place to simply sit and look at the gorge.
Sitting between Pampaneira and Capileira in the Poqueira gorge, Bubión is the smallest and quietest of the three — fewer souvenir shops, less foot traffic, and a more local feel than either of its neighbours. It's a good place to slow down: sit in the sun, have a coffee, look out over the gorge. Sometimes the most valuable thing about a village is what it doesn't have.
The Almijara Rural Tourism Centre in the village has exhibitions on the Alpujarras' history and the distinctive Berber architecture of the region — the flat-roofed houses, the laúnas (stone roof slabs), and the irrigation channels (acequias) that the Nasrids built and that still water the terraced plots. The gorge walks below the village are accessible on foot from here. Bubión is best visited as part of the full Poqueira trio — Pampaneira first, Bubión for lunch, Capileira for the afternoon views.

Bubión has fewer restaurants than Pampaneira but the ones that exist are less tourist-focused. If you're doing the Poqueira trio, this is the natural lunch stop — quieter tables, better views from the terrace, and you can take your time.
The footpath down into the gorge starts near the village and takes you along the Río Poqueira through terraced farmland. It's not strenuous and takes about an hour return. The irrigation channels (acequias) are visible throughout.
The Almijara Rural Tourism Centre has free exhibitions on the Berber origins of the Alpujarras architecture and the Nasrid water management systems. It's a short visit but adds real depth to what you're seeing in the village around you.
