Overview

Know Your Options Before You Arrive

The parking situation near the Alhambra is manageable, but it pays to know your options before you set off. The official Parking Alhambra on the hill is convenient but expensive, and it fills quickly on summer mornings. Free street parking exists in the lower neighbourhoods — Realejo, Campo del Príncipe — but requires an early start.

For many visitors, the best strategy is to leave the car in a cheaper city-centre car park and take the C30 Alhambra minibus from Plaza Nueva. It runs frequently, costs a standard bus fare, and drops you directly at the entrance. If you are staying in Realejo — where Terraza 6 is located — you can simply walk the 900 metres and skip the parking question entirely.

Parking Options

Four Ways to Park Near the Alhambra

Each option suits a different type of visit. Here is what you need to know about each one.

01 Option 01

Parking Alhambra

Most convenient
Price Approximately €2.80–€3.50 per hour
Hours Open 24 hours, 365 days
Capacity Around 450 spaces

Calle Real de la Alhambra — at the main entrance complex

The official car park sits directly beside the Alhambra ticket offices, making it the most convenient option for drivers. You park and walk straight to the entrance without needing any public transport. The car park is open around the clock, which is useful if you have booked an evening Nasrid Palaces visit.

Pros
  • Closest to the Alhambra entrance — no bus or uphill walk
  • Open 24 hours including night visits
  • Covered and secure
Cons
  • Most expensive option — a full day costs €25–35
  • Fills up by 9–10am in July and August
  • The road up (Cuesta de los Chinos) gets congested in peak season
Tip: Arrive before 9am in summer or you risk finding it full. In low season (November–February) there is usually space throughout the day.
02 Option 02

City Centre Car Parks

Best value
Price Approximately €1.00–€2.00 per hour
Hours Most open 24 hours
Capacity Multiple options, rarely full

Parking San Agustín, Parking Neptuno, Parking Puerta Real — city centre

Several covered car parks in the city centre charge significantly less than the official Alhambra car park. The most commonly used is Parking San Agustín, near the Cathedral and Gran Vía. From any of these, you take the C30 or C32 Alhambra minibus from Plaza Nueva — a 5-minute ride that deposits you at the main entrance.

Pros
  • Significantly cheaper for a full day
  • Easier to find space in peak season
  • Lets you combine an Alhambra visit with the city centre
Cons
  • Requires a short bus or walk to reach the Alhambra
  • C30 bus runs frequently but adds a step to the journey
Tip: Parking San Agustín is the most popular choice — it is central, reasonably priced, and the C30 stop on Plaza Nueva is a short walk away.
03 Option 03

Free Street Parking

With an early start
Price Free (white zone) or paid blue zone — check signs
Hours Restrictions apply Mon–Sat in blue zones
Capacity Limited — arrive before 8:30am

Realejo, Campo del Príncipe, lower Alhambra district

Free on-street parking (white zone) exists in the streets around Realejo and the lower part of the Alhambra district. These spots fill up quickly on weekday mornings and are nearly impossible to find by 9am in summer. The Alhambra is then a 15–20 minute uphill walk or a short taxi ride away.

Pros
  • Free — the cheapest option
  • In Realejo, you are already close to the Alhambra on foot
Cons
  • Very limited spaces, especially in high season
  • Uphill walk to the entrance once parked
  • Blue zone areas require a parking meter ticket — read signs carefully
Tip: If you are staying at Terraza 6 in Realejo, free street parking is available nearby. Guests arriving by car typically park once and leave the car for the rest of the stay.
04 Option 04

Park & Ride with the C30 Bus

Stress-free choice
Price Bus fare: €1.40 per journey (city bus network)
Hours C30 runs daily from early morning until late
Frequency Buses run every 7–10 minutes

Park anywhere in the city — take C30 from Plaza Nueva

The C30 and C32 Alhambra minibuses depart from Plaza Nueva every 7–10 minutes and deliver you to the Alhambra in around 8 minutes. They use the standard Granada city bus fare. This approach works well whether you have parked in the city centre or are coming from a residential area. It also avoids the congestion on the road up to the Alhambra.

Pros
  • Avoids congestion on the hill entirely
  • Cheap and very frequent
  • Drops you at the main entrance
Cons
  • Requires getting to Plaza Nueva first
Tip: Buy a bonobus card (rechargeable) at a tobacconist for a lower per-journey fare if you plan multiple trips during your stay.

Getting There Without a Car

Alternatives to Driving

Parking aside, several other options get you to the Alhambra quickly and with less hassle than driving.

C30 / C32 Alhambra Minibus

The most popular way to reach the Alhambra without a car. Both lines depart from Plaza Nueva in the city centre, run every 7–10 minutes, and stop directly at the main entrance. The journey takes around 8 minutes. You pay the standard city bus fare (€1.40 single, or less with a bonobus card). The bus runs from early morning until late at night.

Taxi

A taxi from the city centre or the train/bus station to the Alhambra entrance costs around €6–8 and takes less than 10 minutes. Taxis are available at Plaza Nueva, the Catedral area, and main hotels. On the return journey, there is usually a taxi rank near the Alhambra car park exit.

Walking from Realejo

If you are staying in Realejo — the neighbourhood directly below the Alhambra — you can walk to the entrance in about 15 minutes. The most direct route follows Cuesta de los Chinos, a shaded woodland path that climbs through the Alhambra forest. It is one of the nicer approaches to the complex and avoids all the car park congestion.

Practical Advice

Tips for Parking at the Alhambra

01

Arrive early in summer

Between June and September the official car park fills up before 10am. If you plan to drive, arrive by 8:30am or consider the C30 bus from the city centre instead.

02

Book your Alhambra ticket before your parking

Alhambra tickets must be booked in advance — often weeks ahead in peak season. Sort the ticket first, then plan your transport. You cannot enter without a timed ticket regardless of where you park.

03

Check the parking signs carefully

Street parking in Granada uses a colour-coded zone system: white lines = free, blue lines = paid hours (usually 9am–2pm and 4pm–8pm Mon–Fri). Parking outside these hours is free even in blue zones. Always check the signage to avoid a fine.

04

The road up can be slow

The Cuesta de los Chinos and Cuesta de Gomérez routes to the Alhambra car park can get very congested in July and August, especially between 9am and noon. Factor in extra time, or take the C30 bus to skip the traffic entirely.
