Pinos Genil is a small village on the Rio Genil, about 15km east of Granada on the GR-420 toward Guejar Sierra. The Embalse de Canales, a reservoir formed by the Canales dam, sits just above the village and is its main attraction: a narrow stretch of water set among steep pine-covered slopes with Sierra Nevada rising behind it. Several walking paths lead from the village into the surrounding hills, and the reservoir road reaches viewpoints along the water.
Pinos Genil is a quiet, compact village with a traditional Andalusian character. It lies on the main road toward Sierra Nevada, making it an easy first stop on a day in the mountains, or a gentle alternative if you want a walk and some scenery without committing to a full ascent.
